VPN Accelerator uses a combination of advanced VPN technologies to improve connection stability and, in some cases, increase your connection speed by over 400%. 

VPN Accelerator is enabled by default for all users in our Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android apps. It can be enabled or disabled in each app’s Settings or Preferences menu.

Windows 10

Open the Proton VPN app, then go to ≡ → settings → VPN Accelerator and toggle the switch on or off. 

macOS

Open the Proton VPN app, and go to the macOS menu bar → Proton VPN → Preferences → Connection tab → VPN Accelerator and toggle the switch on or off.

Note: the toggle for VPN Accelerator is only available in version 2.0+ of our macOS app, and only for macOS 10.15+. However, VPN Accelerator is enabled by default on all versions of our app and macOS.

Android

Open the Proton VPN app and tap the 3-bar hamburger icon at the top left of the screen. Then go to Settings → VPN Accelerator and toggle the switch on or off.

The Android app also includes a setting to enable or disable notifications when VPN Accelerator switches to a faster server.

iOS and iPadOS

Open the Proton VPN app, go to Settings → Connection → VPN Accelerator, and toggle the switch on or off.
